Allies of the immediate-past President Muhammadu Buhari, have raised the alarm that only one member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) is currently holding a federal appointment under President Bola Tinubu.

The late President’s allies, under the aegis of Forum of Former State Chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, specifically said it is only the Chairman of the Ogoni Clean-up Project (HYPREP), Dr. Mike Nwielaghi, got a federal appointment.

Daily Trust reports that members of the CPC, one of the blocs that birthed APC in 2013, have in recent time been vocal, alleging systematic marginalization and exclusion from the key appointments and decision-making process in the current administration.

Reiterating their position on Sunday, the former Chairmen, in an open letter sent to the President, copies of which were made available to journalists in Abuja, urged the President to retain the HYPREP boss and appoint more members of the bloc into his government.

The open letter was signed by Kasim Mabo (National Chairman); Sulaiman Oyaremi (National Secretary); Olalekan Obolo (South West Coordinator); Enyinnaya Ibiam Nnachi (South East Coordinator) and Ahmad Dawayo (North East and North West Coordinator).

Speaking, the former CPC bosses appealed to Tinubu not to remove Nwielaghi, who served as the CPC State Chairman in Rivers State in the past, warning that his removal would demoralize the bloc in canvassing for the President’s reelection bid in their respective domains.

“Dr. Nwielaghi, who served as the CPC State Chairman in Rivers State, is currently the only member of our bloc holding a federal appointment.

“To remove him at this time would not only deprive the CPC bloc of all visibility within the current administration but also send a troubling signal of political exclusion.

“This would be deeply demoralizing to a group that stood firm through the merger and the evolution of the APC, especially in a state as politically sensitive as Rivers,” the bloc partly said in the open letter.

Checks showed that Nwielaghi was the pioneer chairman of Alliance for Democracy (AD) Rivers State in 2001. He was also the pioneer interim Organising Secretary APC in Rivers State.

In 2023, the HYPREP boss also served as a Member Finance Directorate Tinubu/ Shetima Presidential campaign Council.
