Just 24 hours after his removal as Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian has been appointed minority leader.
Similarly, Hon. Yekini Idaiye, who was removed as chief whip, has been named minority whip of the house.
Daily Trust reports that Aiguobarueghian, Hon. Natasha Osawaru Irobosa, and Idaiye—members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—were removed as majority leader, deputy majority leader, and chief whip respectively on March 7, 2025, after the PDP lost its majority in the house to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They were replaced by Hon. Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan (APC, Esan West) as majority leader, Hon. Addeh Emakhu Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I) as deputy majority leader, and Hon. Lecky Hussein Mustapha (APC, Etsako West I) as chief whip.
During plenary, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku announced the new appointments, following a letter from the PDP’s state caretaker committee chairman, Dr Anthony Aziegbemi, nominating Aiguobarueghian and Idaiye to fill the vacant minority positions.
The letter, titled “Nomination for Principal Officers”, stated: “After due consultation, the following are nominated to fill the following positions: Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian as minority leader and Hon. Yekini Idaiye as minority whip.”
