EID AL-ADHA: Massive security deployment in states, FCT ahead Sallah

The Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have deployed its personnel across the federation before, during and after the Sallah celebration.

In Katsina State, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 14, AIG Aliyu Abubakar Musa, ordered water-tight security deployments across Katsina and Kaduna states ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha celebration, in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police. 

The AIG urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) or group to the nearest security personnel.

The police command in Katsina State, under the leadership of CP Bello Shehu, also deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations across the state.

The police command, while stating that it had put in place adequate security arrangements to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration, warned parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in activities that contravene the law, such as reckless horse riding, dangerous driving, and substance abuse.

It provided emergency numbers for the public to report incidents or unlawful activities, assuring the public of its commitment to their safety and security during the Sallah celebration.

 

NSCDC deploys 28,000 tactical operatives   nationwide

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered that over 28,000 operatives be massively deployed across the federation.

The operatives are from the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Quick Response Tactical Team, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Operations Department and Special Weapon and Tactics operatives (SWAT).

The spokesman of the NSCDC, Afolabi Babawale, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.

Dr Audi hinted that the directive is part of his unwavering determination to ensure the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure and the safety of lives and property.

The CG called for effective cooperation, collaboration and coordination among security agencies to defeat all unfriendly forces in the country.

During a strategic security meeting with the corps’ top management, state commandants and heads of formations, the CG charged the officers and men to improve their intelligence gathering techniques through community engagement, noting that the bedrock of any security organisation and every successful operation is credible intelligence.

“We also call on members of the public to support this course of action so that together we can attain the goal of effective security coverage across the board,” the CG stated.

He further tasked all private security operators to make significant input through prompt intelligence gathering and information networking.

Meanwhile, the Commandant, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, PhD, has ordered the deployment of 4,500 personnel to all the nooks and crannies of the FCT ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The spokesperson of the corps, DSC Monica Ojobi, in a statement on Wednesday, said the deployment is in a bid to ensure the security of lives and property, as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT and its environs before, during and after the celebration.

She said the deployment cuts across specialised departments and units such as Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adkasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE).

There is also a massive deployment to vulnerable locations and soft targets such as shopping malls, recreational centres, prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, government buildings and areas housing Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

Police in Gombe beef up security at Eid grounds, as civil defence deploys 900 personnel

The Gombe State Police Command said it has taken comprehensive security measures in all designated Eid prayer grounds, as part of efforts to ensure safety and security of people during forthcoming Sallah festivities.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who disclosed this, said the personnel will be strategically deployed before, during, and after the celebration for traffic management, access control, crowd control and general surveillance.

He added that the deployment will include officers from other security agencies, and relevant stakeholders working in close collaboration with event organisers and local authorities.

He said all routes leading to and from Gombe Central Eid Ground will be closely monitored and managed to prevent traffic congestion and ensure seamless movement of worshippers and other road users.

“Access points will be clearly designated, and security checks may be conducted to guarantee public safety.

“Worshippers are advised to strictly use the provided entry and exit points to enhance security screening and avoid unnecessary congestion,” he said.

The PPRO also warned against indiscriminate parking of vehicles, praying on the road, or in front of the exit gates, “as these actions can obstruct emergency response and endanger public safety.”

DSP Abdullahi called on members of the public and worshippers to cooperate with law enforcement personnel, adhere to all traffic and security guidelines, and remain vigilant during the festivities.

Meanwhile, the Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has deployed 900 officers and men to strategic locations across the state for the Eid-Al-Adha celebration.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the command, SC Buhari Sa’ad, said the deployment aims to prevent any potential security breaches and ensure a hitch-free celebration, in line with the NSCDC mandate to protect lives and property at all times.

He stated that the command, under the leadership of the commandant, Jibrin Idris, is taking proactive measures to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration.

The Kaduna State Police Command has called for peace and responsible conduct during the festivities.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, the command extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful and assured residents of comprehensive security measures to ensure a hitch-free celebration.

The command urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and warned against any acts of violence or disruption during the holiday period.

“We appeal to religious, community, and youth leaders to continue promoting peace, tolerance, and mutual respect during and after the Sallah festivities,” CP Muhammad said.

The police appealed to Fulani youth engaging in the traditional Sharo (flogging contest) to celebrate in an orderly and non-violent manner.

Also, the Adamawa State Police Command, while announcing extensive security measures, emphasised “high-visibility patrols and confidence-building patrols around Eid grounds, recreational centres, residential areas, and other public spaces to deter all forms of criminal activity or disruption.”

The NSCDC, Adamawa State Command, also announced the deployment of 1,600 personnel across all 21 local government areas to ensure robust security throughout the upcoming Eid El-Kabir celebration.

This extensive deployment is aimed at maintaining peace, safeguarding lives and property, and preventing criminal activities before, during, and after the festivities.

The NSCDC in Kwara State also deployed 2,900 officers and men to ensure a safe and peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, the personnel will be strategically positioned across all 16 local government areas to ensure comprehensive coverage of critical infrastructure, prayer grounds, recreational centres, and other high-traffic locations.

Similarly, security has been heightened across the Lagos metropolis for Eid-Ul-Adha celebration with the deployment of police and NSCDC personnel supported by CCTV cameras monitoring recreation centres to ensure peace in sensitive areas.

At the Idumota area where the State Central Mosque is located, both authorities have bolstered security.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have also been deployed to key worship centres to manage traffic flow.

While the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed area commanders and their respective Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to identify sensitive areas and collaborate with religious leaders to ensure peace, the Commandant of the Lagos NSCDC, Adedotun Keshinro, directed his men to keep close watch on key government installations such as petroleum pipelines, transformers and others to ward off vandals.

Keshinro directed a total of 2,150 operatives to protect critical government installations in the state.

Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday announced the deployment of a large number of police personnel and tactical units across the state to ensure a safe, peaceful, and crime-free Sallah celebration.

The NSCDC, Edo State Command, also deployed a total of 1,400 personnel for a hitch free Sallah celebration in the state.

Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, DSP Musa Muhammad, told Daily Trust on Wednesday, that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Francis Idu, had also ordered the watertight security during and after the Sallah celebration.
