There was jubilation among residents of Ibwa community in Ibwa ward of Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT following the installation of a new 500 KVA transformer in the area.

Abuja Metro gathered that Ibwa community, about nine kilometres from Paikon-Kore, has been in darkness for over a year due to lack of functional transformer.

The residents said the absence of electricity has affected the socio-economic activities of the community, adding that only a few residents use generator in their homes.

Abdullahi Yakubu, a native of the community, who spoke with our reporter, said since the old transformer broke down, they had been in darkness.

He said the new 500 KVA transformer, which was installed on Saturday, was provided by the council chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, who directed officials of the works department of the council to immediately install it.

He said the speaker of the council, Mohammed Ibwa, who is a native of the community, facilitated the installation of the transformer, saying residents can now sigh with relief.

Another resident, Danlami Maikasuwa, said the transformer was installed by the officials of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) shortly after the road that connects to Paiko was commissioned by the FCT minister, Nyemson Wike.

“Although, from what the speaker said, the road that links Paiko to Ibwa was in a deplorable state until last week when the minister commissioned it, which prompted the council authorities to direct the AEDC to install the new transformer,” he said.

A community leader from the area, Salisu Ibrahim, who also spoke with our reporter, said he was full of joy that electricity was restored to the community after over one year in darkness.
