The federal government on Wednesday kickstarted high-level coordination talks with key climate stakeholders as part of efforts to prepare Nigeria’s delegation for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP30) scheduled to hold in Belem, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025.
The meeting, held at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), brought together ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to harmonise Nigeria’s climate agenda and develop a unified strategy ahead of the global summit.
Speaking on behalf of the SGF, Senator George Akume, the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, said Nigeria must show up at COP30 with a clear, coordinated message that reflects its national priorities and international commitments.
“It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to this crucial preparatory meeting as we set our sights on COP30,” he said. “We are here to lay the groundwork and ensure that our nation’s voice is not only heard but also impacts the global climate agenda.”

Danjuma noted that expectations at COP30 are high, with major items on the table such as ending fossil fuel dependence, tripling global renewable energy, halting deforestation, and strengthening climate resilience across key sectors.
On her part, the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Dr Omotenioye Majekodunmi, pledged to lead a results-driven effort as Nigeria prepares for COP30.
