The federal government is committed to ending brain-drain and medical tourism in the country.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, stated this while commissioning some development projects at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

“We will do everything we can to improve your enumeration and improve services in our hospitals,” he said.

The commissioner of Health in Sokoto State, Dr. Ali Inname, said the state required 3000 community essential health workers to bridge the gap in the health sector.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Anas Sabir, noted that the 900-bed hospital had admitted 19,934 patients and treated 71,220 outpatients in 2021.

He highlighted some of their challenges, which include inadequate manpower, electricity and aging facilities among others.

The projects commissioned by the minister included the Nuclear Medicine Department, Brachytherapy centre, upgraded ICU and multipurpose centre.
