The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has directed tax offices across the country to open on weekends throughout June to help companies meet their annual filing deadline.

He said the decision aligns with the agency’s focus on improving service and was taken to ease pressure during the Companies Income Tax (CIT) filing season.

“This move is part of our commitment to make tax payment as seamless as possible,” he said.

He explained that offices would open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays, from June 14 to June 29.

He added that the extended hours were aimed at assisting companies whose financial year ends in December and must file their returns by June 30.

“June is a critical month in the tax calendar,” he said. “We want to ensure no taxpayer misses the deadline due to avoidable constraints.”

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, Adedeji said the directive reflects the agency’s shift from being a tax collector to a service-driven institution.

He said the Coordinating Directors of the Large Taxpayers Group (LTG), Government and Medium Taxpayers Group (GMTG), and Emerging Taxpayers Group (ETG), Ms Amina Ado, Dr Dick Irri, and Mr Kabir Abba, have informed staff of the new schedule.

“As you are aware, June marks the peak of the Companies Income Tax filing season,” the directors said in a joint memo. “To ease the process, improve service, and boost collection, management approved weekend operations for June 2025.”
