Gombe: Principal, teacher remanded over alleged sexual assault of pupil

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Gombe has remanded the principal and a teacher of Destiny Treasure International School, Arawa Quarters, Gombe, at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, over alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old pupil.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Hamaira Bema Demba, ordered the remand of the defendants pending judgment.
According to the prosecution, sometime in July 2026, a class teacher identified as Eleazer Yila sexually assaulted the six-year-old pupil.
The prosecution told the court that the incident came to light after the child disclosed it to her mother, Mrs. Saratu Emmanuel.

The school principal, Nasiru Barau Manun, was also accused of allegedly shielding the teacher instead of reporting the matter to the appropriate authorities.
The State Prosecutor, Barrister Manir Mohammed Sambo, alongside a counsel, Barrister Nafi’u Abubakar, informed the court that the offences are contrary to Sections 285 and 167 of the Penal Code Law.
When the charges were read and explained to them, both defendants pleaded guilty.
Following their plea, the prosecution urged the court to summarily try the matter pursuant to Section 338 of the Gombe State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2020.
The court subsequently remanded the defendants at the Medium Security Custodial Centre and adjourned the case until July 28, 2026, for judgment.
