The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has directed all state governments to intensify security preparedness across the country ahead of the 2025 festive season, citing heightened population movements, large public gatherings and increased public safety risks.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the eighth meeting of NGF held on Wednesday night in Abuja.
The communiqué was signed by the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and read to journalists by the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.
According to the communiqué, the forum received a formal communication from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) urging governors to adopt proactive security measures during the yuletide.

In response, the governors collectively pledged to strengthen inter-agency coordination among security services, protect critical national and state infrastructure and ensure visible security presence in identified hot spots nationwide.
The communique reads in part: “The governors are committed to taking all necessary steps to guarantee a safe, peaceful and incident-free festive season for Nigerians.”
Beyond security, the NGF also received notification from the World Bank confirming the effectiveness of the Additional Financing for the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Programme.
The approval clears the way for continuous disbursement of funds to states to support livelihoods, food security, public works and resilience-building initiatives.
