Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted passengers traveling on the Sobe-Benin road in the Owan West local government area of Edo State.

According to sources, the kidnappers have made contact with the victims’ families and are demanding a ransom of N15 million for each victim to secure their release.

It was learned that the passengers were traveling in an 18-seater bus belonging to a transport company in the state. The gunmen, who were reportedly hiding in the bush, emerged and waylaid the bus, forcing the driver to stop by shooting him. After injuring the driver, the kidnappers took the passengers into the bush, leaving the driver behind in a pool of blood.

A social media influencer, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), reportedly rescued the driver and took him to a hospital for medical attention.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Yamu, could not be reached for comment.

Phone calls and text messages sent to him were not answered as at the time of filing this report.
