Home crowd favourites Haske & Williams and Jos Malcomines headline the contenders for the prestigious Yola International Polo Tournament, which gallops off on Monday, September 8, and runs through September 13, 2025, in the Adamawa State capital.
Haske & Williams, led by Abdulrahman Haske, will be gunning for the tournament’s biggest prize, the Governor’s Cup, while defending champions Jos Malcomines, spearheaded by Murtala Laushi, are seeking back-to-back victories after their triumph in 2024.
Other challengers include nine Yola-based teams, as well as sides from Bauchi, Abuja, Minna, and newcomers from Jalingo, Taraba State. In total, over 20 teams from across the country, including Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Zaria, Jos, Gombe, and Maiduguri, are expected at what promises to be one of the most competitive editions in years.
Acting Captain of Yola Polo Club, Asharaf Yahaya, confirmed preparations are in full swing. “The ancient city of Yola and the entire Adamawa State is wearing new looks as the tournament committee works hard to deliver a splendid Yola 2025 polo festival at the Lamido Musdafa Polo Ground,” he said.

Yola Polo Secretary, Usman Saad, added: “On behalf of Yola Polo Club, I’m very happy to report that Yola is good to go. We have put everything in place to make this edition very special for the players, our numerous guests, and thousands of polo enthusiasts.”
Major prizes at stake include the Governor’s Cup, the historic Lamido Cup, the Emir of Mubi Cup, INTELS Cup, ABTI Cup, General Hassan Cup, A.A. Mustapha Cup, and the M.C. Tahir Cup.
Revered as the biggest tourism and sporting attraction in Adamawa since the 1930s, the Yola Polo Tournament remains the pride of the northeast, drawing elite players, traditional rulers, and polo fans from across Nigeria.
