Insecurity: Rise up and defend yourselves, TY Danjuma renews call for self-defence

Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd)

Former Minister of Defence, General T Y Danjuma (rtd), has again emphasized that the fight against insecurity in Nigeria cannot be left to the government alone.

He made the call during a get-together organised in honor of his staff at Takum in Taraba State at the weekend

He told staff, partners, and companies working with him that the citizens should not fold their arms and allow bandits and terrorists  over run their commodities

The elder statesman warned that if citizens fail to defend themselves, bandits and terrorists could overrun communities.

He reiterated the importance of preparedness for self-defense as a necessary step in the face of escalating insecurity across the country.

According to him, the recent spate of killings in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of Nigeria had once again validated his concerns.

“The warning I gave some years ago is still as valid today as it was then. Nigerians must rise and defend themselves.

“We cannot continue to sit and watch while bandits, terrorists, and criminal gangs massacre our people unchecked.

“It is now very clear that the government alone cannot protect us. We must stand up and defend ourselves, our families, and our lands before these criminals overrun the entire country.”

General Danjuma expressed deep appreciation to his staff and associates for their dedication and commitment, especially those working at the TY Danjuma Medical Centre.

He commended them for their selfless service and acknowledged their role in building a reputable image for the institution, noting that their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

The event featured captivating performances by renowned Taraba-born music artiste, M.I Abaga, and other entertainers, delighting guests with a variety of musical presentations.

Among the dignitaries present at the occasion were the Governor of Taraba State,  Agbu Kefas, members of the State House of Assembly, State Executive Council members, the Secretary to the State Government, and the Chief of Staff, Government House Administration.
