The Jigawa State Government has revealed that in its bid to transform the agricultural and livestock sectors, it is set to enter into a strategic partnership with one of India’s foremost poultry conglomerates, Srinivasa Farms.
This is contained in a statement issued and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Jigawa State, Mr Hamisu Mohammed Gumel.
He said as part of the state’s ongoing agricultural investment tour to India, the Jigawa State delegation, led by Governor Malam Umar Namadi, had paid a working visit to Srinivasa Farms’ headquarters in Hyderabad to explore collaboration opportunities that the state may leverage to revitalise its growing poultry industry.
The statement added that the state’s technical delegation held detailed discussions with the firm’s management, where both parties reached a mutual understanding on eight key areas of collaboration.
The areas include poultry disease management and joint efforts to improve animal health and disease control protocols, hatchery technology deployment, in which the state will be introduced to advanced hatchery technologies to improve productivity as well as bio-security infrastructure, among others.
It further revealed that the Indian firm has been a leading farm in India’s poultry sector since 1965, and is a widely respected firm for its leadership in poultry breeding, feed production, animal health solutions, and food processing.
The statement also revealed that during the visit, the state governor expressed optimism about the initiative’s impact.
“This partnership represents another giant leap in our commitment to agricultural transformation. With the right technology, training and strategic alliances like this, Jigawa will emerge as a hub for poultry excellence in Nigeria,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
It explained that an official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and the firm is expected to be signed in the coming weeks to formalise the partnership.
