Gunmen have reportedly killed a middle-aged man, Hammayidi, in Galumji village, Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State, despite receiving a N5 million ransom from his family.
Our correspondent gathered that Hammayidi was abducted from his home in the middle of the night three weeks ago.
His decomposing body was later found under a bridge in the bush between Dukku and Akko, just days after the ransom was paid.
A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “He was tied up, slaughtered, and shot in the body.”

The family member explained that the family raised the ransom by selling farm produce and livestock on Dukku market day.
“The money was handed over to them the same day. They counted it and even offered to give him N10,000 for his Okada ride from the bush to town,” he added.
The family also disclosed that they spent over N500,000 to track the phone number the abductors used to contact them.
Two days after Hammayidi’s abduction, cattle rustlers reportedly invaded his compound and stole two bulls from his corral.
Five days later, the same gang allegedly returned to the village, targeting his neighbour. Though the man escaped, his wife was abducted and is still in captivity.
In a related incident, two other men were abducted from a nearby village on the outskirts of Dukku town around the same time.
Sources confirmed that a N10 million ransom was paid for their release.
Efforts to reach the Gombe State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, did not respond to calls or messages as of press time.
