Lagos raids criminal hideouts, arrests 49 suspects

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit has arrested 49 suspects during an early morning raid in Victoria Island.

The operation, led by the agency’s chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele, began around 1am on Wednesday, targeting 

areas like Maroko Sandfill, Bonny Camp and nearby communities known for illegal activities.

Akerele said the raid was based on complaints and tips from residents.

Of the 49 people arrested, 48 were men and one a woman.

The chairman said the goal was to clear out criminals like street thugs and pickpockets disturbing the peace in the area.
