The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said that about 1,200 artisans who specialise in assorted fabric making have been rendered jobless by the fire that engulfed the Tejuosho Market in Lagos on Tuesday.

NEMA’s Director General (DG), Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, disclosed this in a post-disaster losses and needs assessment report on Wednesday.

Ahmed, represented by Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Zonal Coordinator, South West of the agency, confirmed that over 1,600 industrial, weaving and sewing machines were destroyed in the mid-afternoon fire.

The DG, while consoling the traders, urged them not to see the situation as a temporary setback, but as a challenge that would bring greater success.

The assessment revealed that about 150 lock-up shops were destroyed with at least eight registered traders occupying each shop.
