The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen and his Deputy, Benjamin Kalu have celebrated workers in Nigeria, saying their contributions to the growth and development of the country cannot be quantified.

In a goodwill message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi on Thursday, to commemorate this year’s May Day celebration, also known as Workers’ Day, Speaker Abbas said the House would continue to recognise workers as “partners in progress.”

He commended Nigerian workers, especially the organised labour, under the umbrellas of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their immeasurable roles in the economy, describing them as the “engine room.”

Speaker Abbas noted that workers deserved better welfare and the labour unions should be commended for their understanding with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration concerning their welfare, following the current difficult economic realities.

While urging workers to continue to offer their services with zeal and patriotism, the Speaker called for more productivity, noting that only the citizens can sustain their fatherland.

Similarly, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Livinus Nwabughiogu, on Wednesday, commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, acknowledging their pivotal role in the nation’s development.

Kalu noted the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to enhance the welfare of the civil servants, particularly the swift approval of the increased minimum wage by the National Assembly.

He urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, emphasizing that the economic reforms embarked upon by the administration will yield long-term benefits.

He stressed the importance of collective effort and unity in overcoming the nation’s challenges, charging the workers to stand in solidarity with the government.
