Pastor Danladi Jeji, the President of the Original Inhabitants Development Association (OIDA), an umbrella body for the indigenous people of the FCT, has said that the FCT originally belongs to the natives, not all Nigerians.
Jeji made the remarks on Saturday in response to media reports quoting Hajiya Amina Sani Abdullahi, the Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled Persons.
The commissioner had condemned the alleged deportation of some northerners, including those from Kano, by the FCT administration.
He explained that the FCT’s indigenous population consists of nine tribes with 878 communities, and that they only accommodated other Nigerians to settle in the territory peacefully.

Jeji noted that the FCT has been in existence for over 500 years, long before it was declared the capital territory in 1976.
He insisted that people who live in the territory are the rightful owners of the land.
According to him, the federal government’s pronouncement that the FCT is a land for all is an insult to the intelligence and sensibility of the indigenous people.
