NCC shares new android phones to 10 raffle winners at Kano trade fair

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has distributed 10 android mobile phones at 42nd Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), holding at Trade Fair complex in the state.

Each of the winners, who coincidentally happened to five men and five women, went home with the brand new mobile device, at the event of the NCC Day at the trade fair.

Several others also won recharge cards from different service providers courtesy of the commission.

Earlier speaking at the event, NCC Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Professor Umar Garba Dambatta, said the commission on the verge of licensing spectrum for the deployment of 5G network in Nigeria before the end of the year.

Dambatta, who was represented by the Director, Public Affairs of the commission, Ikechukwu Adendi, said, “As you may be aware, the NCC is on the verge of licensing the 3.5 gigahertz spectrum for the deployment of Fifth Generation (5G) network in Nigeria.

“This follows Federal Government’s approval, authorizing the Commission proceed with necessary regulatory actions required for the 5G technology deployment in Nigeria consistent with government’s desire for a robust digital economy.”

He said the commission has commenced an implementation journey aimed at ensuring more accessible and affordable broadband/telecom service delivery to consumers and businesses alike across the country.

Professor Dambatta also explained that despite the global challenges posed by COVID-19, telecommunications sector has been a major driver of the digital economy agenda of the Federal Government, as it continues to provide the needed support to the economy, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and its attendant restriction period.

According to him, NCC, as telecommunications industry regulator, ensures consumers are protected to eschew cases of online fraud or from falling victims of cybercrime antics while using the Internet for your legitimate personal and business activities.

Earlier, the NCC Consumer Affairs Bureau Director, Edosa Edehen, said the commission has developed a number of services to address consumer’s complaints such as Consumer Education Outreach and Consumer Complaints Management (CCM).
