The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved a one-year extension for the boards of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), and Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO), moving their tenure end date to September 29, 2026.
This new timeline aligns with the conclusion of the current NFF administration led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON).
Originally inaugurated on July 1, 2023, the three boards—chaired by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye (NPFL), Chief George Aluo (NNL), and His Excellency Silas Ali Agara (NLO)—were initially given a two-year mandate that was set to expire on June 30, 2025.
A statement from the NFF Media Department noted “The NFF Executive Committee commended the body of work of each of the three boards in the past two years, and charged them to commit even more efforts to delivering better-packaged and more attractive leagues that football managers and stakeholders in the country and the continent at large will be proud of, while resolving to progressively introspect and innovate for the good of the game.”

While commending their performance, the NFF urged the league bodies to build on their achievements and further improve the quality and appeal of domestic competitions.
However, the federation opted to defer a decision on the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) board, currently led by Nkechi Obi, to a later date.
In a separate development, Kwara United players have been granted a 10-day break following their triumph in the President Federation Cup final.
The Harmony Boys clinched the trophy with a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Abakaliki FC after a goalless draw in regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, last Saturday.
Players and officials are expected to resume camp on Thursday, July 11, as preparations begin for the upcoming season.
Kwara United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup, starting in September.
Meanwhile, the 2025/26 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 22.
