The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has dismissed reports suggesting he was threatened by the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over an alleged restriction on entering the state without prior security clearance.

In a short video recorded during his visit to Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha — his alma mater — Obi responded to a journalist’s question regarding the purported threat, describing the comment attributed to Governor Okpebholo as inconsequential.

“There is no threat,” Obi said. “All these things don’t move me. I receive threats every time. I’m in school here today, I’m going to be in another somewhere tomorrow.”

It was the first time Obi reacted publicly to the reported remarks by the Edo governor.

He insisted that no political statement or directive would prevent him from visiting any part of the country.

“I will always go to Edo State whenever I wish,” he added.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, made the comments during his visit to CKC, where he donated N50 million to support infrastructure development at the school.
