Head of Anambra State Aids Control Agency (NACA), Mr Johnbosco Nkem Ementa, has stated that any organization found stigmatizing and discriminating against people living with HIV/AIDS in the state would pay a penalty of N1.5 million.
He also said that any individual found stigmatizing and discriminating against people living with HIV/AIDS would be fined the sum of N500,000.00.
He disclosed this during a two-day stakeholders’ meeting on the fight against HIV/AIDS in the state on Friday.
According to him, there is a 2014 HIV& AIDS Anti-Discrimination Act, which has not been domesticated in Anambra State.
He said that the state would soon send a Bill to the State House of Assembly to domesticate the law.
He said the government has pegged a fine of N1.5m for organizations, firms and corporate bodies and the sum of N500,000 for individuals or imprisonment for a period not less than one year or both.
