Ortom suspends traditional ruler over crisis in LG

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has ordered the immediate suspension of a traditional head, Zaki Ortar Agwa Mnyange Kwahar of Mbatyough Council Ward in Mbagen of Buruku Local Government Area of the state.

Ortom said the suspension of the chief was in accordance with Section 30 of the Benue State Chieftaincy Law, in order to pave way for investigation into his role in the crisis at Mbatyough, Mbagen Council Ward.

The governor in a statement by his Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Ngunan Addingi, Saturday, also directed that all youth groups in Yemakem be banned with immediate effect, adding that all activities of Yamakem youth association are also suspended indefinitely.

He stated that the decision was a result of the recent crisis in Mbatyough Council Ward, Mbagen in Buruku, adding that after his (Ortom) meeting with the Tor Jemgbagh, Chief Afatyo Ajoko, Ter Buruku, Chief Moses Hanior, Mue Ter, Chief Tivfa Addingi, the kindred heads in the wards and elders from the area took measures to end the skirmishes.

The governor further condemned the gruesome manner that a widow in the area, Mrs Shaade Nyihemba, was murdered by unknown criminals and ordered that full investigation be carried out by the police and DSS to find out those behind the dastardly act for prosecution.
