The Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday conducted its Kano State congress, producing new executives through consensus.
The congress, which is coming few days after a Federal High Court ruling set aside the Tanimu Turaki-led party excos at the federal level, held under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
At the congress, Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi emerged as the new state chairman, while Ali Mati Shantake was elected financial secretary. Dr. Hafsat Abubakar was chosen as women leader, with Musa Baba Dala as publicity secretary and Engr Auwal Ya’u as youth leader.
Other key positions include Barr. Abdullahi Umar as legal adviser and Lawan Shehu Yakasai as treasurer.

Speaking shortly after announcing the new party excos, chairman of the electoral committee of the party sent to the state, Aminu Abdullahi Taura, said the exercise followed the dissolution of ward and local government congresses across the state.
He explained that the congress was part of ongoing reforms within the party, adding that Nigerians were “fed up with APC” and still nostalgic about PDP’s period in power.
Taura disclosed that 29 members of the state executive council were elected unanimously by stakeholders and the caretaker committee.
He emphasised that the PDP remains united, despite past disputes, and noted that reconciliation efforts were ongoing to bring all leaders together.
PDP National Youth Leader, Ibrahim Bala Aboki, also addressed delegates, stressing that the party had never had a youth in such a national leadership position until the emergence of Nyesom Wike.
He insisted that PDP is one indivisible party, dismissing claims of factionalism, and highlighted the successful conduct of congresses across 448 wards and 44 local government areas in Kano.
Daily Trust reports that the congress also recognised its 2023 governorship in the state, Alhaji Muhamad Sani Abacha, as its leader for his contributions to the growth of the party in Kano.
The party leaders assured members that reconciliation efforts would continue to ensure PDP emerges stronger ahead of future political contests.
