No fewer than 1000 cows were rustled on Saturday, by bandits, in the Kogin Pai community of Wase LGA of Plateau State.

The bandits, according to the residents of the area, arrived in the community in their numbers, shooting sporadically to scare people around.

The incident came a day after bandits ambushed soldiers in Zurak Kampani community of the same LGA. 

The spokesman of Operation Safe Haven, which is maintaining peace in the state, Major Ishaku Takwa, confirmed the ambush but said no personnel of the operation was killed.

Yusuf Dahiru, a resident of the community who confirmed the incident, said the bandits arrived at the community around 2pm, adding that the cattle were kept in the community to be evaluated the following day (Sunday).

Yusuf said the criminals succeeded in moving the cows to an unknown destination.

Kogin Pai is about 3km drive from Zurak Kampani where soldiers of OPSH have their base.

Our correspondent reports that Wase communities have in recent times been subjected to banditry activities, forcing many to flee their homes.
