The Enugu State Police Command has detained Chinweuba Edeh (42), an alleged armed robbery suspect, for allegedly robbing a Point of Sale (POS) operator of N70,000.

This information is contained in a statement issued in Enugu on Tuesday by the command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

Ndukwe said the suspect was detained on Oct. 17 at about 6:40 am by police operatives serving in the Nkanu West (Agbani) Police Division, following a swift response to a distress call from a female victim.

According to him, the victim reported that the suspect robbed her at gunpoint at Orie-Mba Akpugo Market in the Akpugo community of the Nkanu West Local Government Area.

“A locally made double-barrelled pistol loaded with two live cartridges was recovered from the suspect. The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” he said.

Ndukwe added that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to sustaining the ongoing onslaught against unrepentant criminals, including those involved in violent crimes.

The spokesman said the commissioner urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and promptly report suspected criminals and their activities to the nearest police station.

“Alternatively, they may call the command’s emergency hotlines 08032003702 or 08086671202, and the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre on 112, 09134666668, or 09134448093,” he added. (NAN)
