Operatives of the FCT Police Command have gunned down a suspected armed robber and arrested eight others.
They also recovered four AK -47 rifles in the operation that happened in Maitama District of Abuja.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajoa Adewale, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, said it happened after the operatives, in a coordinated joint tactical operation led by the Scorpion Squad, had successfully dismantled a seven-man robbery gang that specialises in armed robbery and jacking.
He said the gang had been on the command’s watchlist following multiple armed robberies and vehicle thefts incidents traced to their network.

He said the operatives, upon receiving credible intelligence information that the syndicate was planning to rob an unsuspecting victim around Maitama on Monday, mobilised and intercepted them.
According to him, upon sighting the officers, the gang opened fire, which resulted in a gun duel with the robber.
He said one of the suspects, Abdulmuminu Bello aka Babanle, was neutralised.
He said other suspects were arrested.
CP Ajoa, however, disclosed that the armed robbers’ gang leader, Solomon Bawa, aka Pastor Mogu, and one other suspect, fled with gunshot wounds.
