The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and Miss Luxury Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Miss Migration Pageantry initiative.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony at the Refugee House in Abuja on Monday, the Federal Commissioner of the NCFRMI, Aliyu Tijani Ahmed, said the Miss Migration Pageantry would be a side event during the second thematic meeting of the Rabat process slated to hold in Lagos on November 4th 2025.
He said, “This partnership is not just about beauty contest but a transformational empowerment platform initiated to project migration as a positive venture that requires the support of every critical stakeholder.
“It is no doubt a platform for advocacy, awareness creation and public education. We expect Miss Migration to become a strong voice against irregular migration, educating our young people on its dangers, while at the same time showcasing the opportunities inherent through safe and regular migration pathways.

“The theme ‘Empower Her voice: Breaking Chains, and building the Future’ is most suitable for this initiative.”
Ahmed said that it is expected that the platform would empower young Nigerians, especially women, to serve as ambassadors of hope in their communities in the area of migration awareness, while also inspiring creativity and innovation in migration advocacy and public education.
“And most importantly, that it will change perceptions by giving a human face and a strong voice to the migration conversation in Nigeria.
“That the platform will allow for mobilization of financial and material resources to enhance seamless return, readmission and reintegration leveraging on the provision of mental health and psychosocial support as well as empowerment training and provision of starter packs.
“We believe this initiative will complement the Commission’s work in return, readmission, and reintegration, while also supporting national and international commitments to safe, orderly, and dignified migration.”
Speaking at the occasion, Edidiong Udoidiong, the founder and executive director of Miss Luxury Foundation, said his organisation will bring expertise in grassroots mobilisation and a powerful media platform that can shape narratives and mobilize action.
He said, through the Miss Migration Crown, “We are placing a mandate in the hands of a young woman who will serve as an ambassador for safe migration, a voice for the displaced, and a face of hope to those who have none.”
According to him, his organisation’s work will focus on awareness and advocacy, skills and empowerment, policy support and global partnerships.
“As we sign this partnership agreement, I want to be clear — this is not a ceremonial alliance. This is a working pact. A commitment to integrated action that addresses migration not as an isolated problem, but as a cross-cutting issue linked to poverty, unemployment, security, and national development,” he said.
