The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has called for inclusion in the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) empowerment scheme for businesses.

The FCT Chairman of the union, Musa Saidu Zuba, told Abuja Metro that despite the organization’s capacity to build and successfully manage a motor park, their requests for land allocation have been ignored.

“The FCTA is giving out land allocations to various professions like estate developers, school proprietors, public toilet operators, and traders, but when it comes to our profession, they would rather give the allocation to private developers or individuals and expect us to operate as squatters inside motor parks run by companies,” he said.

Zuba argued that this practice is unfair and results in double taxation for his members.

He listed several terminals he claims were allocated to individuals in areas including Nyanya, Area 1, Area 3, and Beggar Junction, adding that the multipurpose terminal under construction in Mabushi was also allocated to a developer.

While commending the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a “massive infrastructure development” in the territory, Zuba urged the minister to address the scarcity of bus stops and motor parks.

He noted that the lack of proper terminals encourages some drivers to operate on the roadside in the city center and other major towns.
