Saudi Kingdom donates relief items to 3,971 IDPs in Yobe

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has donated relief items to 3,971 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)households in Yobe State.

The items were handed over to Yobe State Government by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Flagging off the distribution in Kasaisa IDPs camp in Damaturu, the NEMA Director General,  Muhammadu A. Mohammed, represented by an official in the ministry, Fatima Kasim disclosed that the items were meant to alleviate the suffering of the IDPs.

She said the activities of Boko Haram insurgents had resulted in large-scale displacements and humanitarian crises requiring  interventions from both governments, local and international humanitarian actors.

“This donation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia cannot come at a better time taking into account the current predicaments of the IDPs.

“A total of 3,971 food baskets containing a bag of rice, beans and condiments will be given to each household

“The intervention cost the donors  $1,147,310 for the three states of Borno, Yobe and Zamfara States”.

The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Mohammed Goje while thanking donors for the gesture assured that the items would be presented to the right beneficiaries.

Goje said the King Salman Relief Centre had in 2018 carried out similar humanitarian interventions in Borno and Yobe States, in the North East.
