The Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of the club’s newly appointed assistant coach, Akin Olowookere.
Olowookere, a former Sunshine Stars player and coach, reportedly slumped on Monday morning during a training session at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, while the team was preparing for Matchday 2 of the ValueJet Cup 2025.
Eyewitnesses said he collapsed in the middle of the session and received immediate medical attention before being rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he was later pronounced dead on arrival.
Olowookere, a former Sunshine Stars player and respected figure in Nigerian football, was recently unveiled as part of Shooting Stars Sports Club’s new technical crew following the exit of the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching staff.

During his playing days at Sunshine Stars of Akure, he earned a reputation for hard work, discipline, and humility. After hanging up his boots, he moved into coaching, taking charge of Ekiti United and later serving as assistant coach under Edith Agoye at Sunshine Stars, before making his return to the Oluyole Warriors in a technical capacity.
Soft-spoken but deeply passionate about the game, Olowookere was widely admired for his commitment to developing players. He consistently went beyond his official duties, mentoring and inspiring younger talents both on and off the pitch.
As of press time, the club is yet to issue an official statement on the cause of death.
