Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) from the Kiru Area Command have arrested one Umar Adamu Umar, a 27-year-old from Fagge LGA, Kano State.
He was apprehended with 9 kilograms of cannabis sativa, packaged in 19 parcels.
The arrest took place on August 6, 2025, along the Zaria–Kano Road, as the suspect was transporting the substance from Lagos to Kano.
Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and the NDLEA spokesman in Kano, said in a statement that the suspect confirmed his involvement in the illegal drug trade. Maigatari noted that Umar had been under surveillance by the command for some time prior to his arrest. The seized substance has an estimated street value of over ₦10 million, he added.

“This interception represents a significant financial blow to the illicit network behind the consignment,” Sadiq stated. “It denies traffickers substantial revenue, disrupts their supply chain and distribution channels, and reduces funds available for further criminal activity.”
He added that removing this quantity of drugs from circulation also helps “protect vulnerable communities from the social and economic harms associated with the trade in narcotics.”
