A middle-aged woman, identified as Ramatu, was crushed to death while riding a motorcycle back from her farm in the Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
A witness said the incident happened on Wednesday, around 5:12 pm, near the Con Oil filling station.
He said the driver of a trailer coming from the Lokoja axis was trying to avoid a pothole when he lost control, adding that in the process, the trailer crushed the woman, killing her and injured the motorcycle rider.
The witness added that the woman was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed her dead, while the injured cyclist is currently receiving treatment.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who was part of the rescue, confirmed the incident, stating that the woman was rescued alive but died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
He said the trailer driver, who had initially fled the scene, was later apprehended near Gada Buyi village along the highway and handed over to the police.
A police source also confirmed the incident, stating that the driver has been detained and an investigation is underway.
