The United States Government has donated $32.5 million to the World Food Programme (WFP) to support food and nutrition assistance for over 764,000 vulnerable Nigerians, particularly those displaced by conflict in the North-East and North-West regions.
The funding will enable WFP to provide critical food aid and nutritional support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) across conflict-affected areas.
The assistance includes complementary nutrition top-ups for 41,569 pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls, as well as 43,235 children, who will receive support through electronic food vouchers designed to improve access to essential nutrients.
The intervention is seen as vital to saving lives and reducing hunger and malnutrition in communities affected by protracted insecurity and displacement.
