The Chairman/CEO of Air Peace, Barr. Allen Onyema said the airline’s entry into the international area had curbed high fares charged by foreign airlines on various international routes.
He also declared that Nigerian airlines can no longer be “demonised” as not having the capacity, saying this is now a thing of the past.
Onyema spoke when the Airline, Nigeria’s largest carrier, took delivery of its fourth Boeing 777 aircraft to beef up its international operations.
The wide-bodied Boeing 777-200ER, bearing registration 5N-CEG, touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos last Friday and was welcomed with a ceremonial water-cannon salute.

The airline’s spokesperson, Efe Osifo-Whiskey, noted that the arrival of the state-of-the-art aircraft aligns with Air Peace’s vision of global connectivity.
Configured with a total of 312 seats, including 26 luxurious business class seats and 286 economy class seats, the aircraft offers a blend of comfort and modern amenities.
The Business Class cabin features private, ambient seating with advanced inflight comfort, while Economy passengers will enjoy spacious legroom and refined service.
But Onyema disclosed that the new aircraft would be deployed in two months’ time for its Abuja-Heathrow and Gatwick flights, commencing in October.
Further plans, he stated, include opening new routes into key European cities, South America, particularly direct flights to Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the Caribbean, building on Air Peace’s groundbreaking operations into Antigua and Barbuda as well as St. Kitts and Nevis.
Onyema assured of the airline’s commitment to offer Nigerians fair and affordable access to international travel while curbing the high fares long endured by passengers on foreign carriers.
“Air Peace has helped our nation to bring down the cost of international travel. You will agree with me that Business Class was moving to N18m at a time. Now everybody is struggling to even do six million because we brought it down to help our nation. Now you can fly any airline you want to fly, it mustn’t be Air Peace, but at least at the right and appropriate price. This is what supporting your own has brought to bear in the polity.
“We are ambitious. We want to change the status quo. A situation whereby our country has been playing the second fiddle for a long term is gone and gone forever and I am very pleased, we are pleased in Air Peace that we have a President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who thinks that indigenous airlines in this country must be supported. The time has gone when we are demonised for not having capacity.
“This government has stepped out to say let us see how we can support these airlines to have capacity.”
