Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan battled to claim second place in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Xiamen Diamond League.
The event’s world record holder finished in 12.28s behind Masai Russell of the US who claimed the win in 12.14s, but finished ahead of Devyne Charlton from Bahamas who clocked 12.37s for third place.
The 29 years old’s finish time of 12.37s is her new season’s best, erasing the 12.41s she clocked in the first Diamond League meet, also in China.
Amusan started slightly behind both Russell and Charlton who registered the best sprint from the starting blocks. The world record holder however recovered to overhaul Charlton, but could not get closer to Russell who recorded the fastest time in each of the next nine hurdles, and the sprint to the finish line.

Amusan’s second place finish is an improvement on her first Diamond League event where she finished in third position earlier this season.
She is expected to compete in the next meeting of this season’s Diamond League series set to be held in Rabat, Morocco, on May 31.
