The Zamfara State Police Command says it has foiled an attempted bandit attack on Gidan Fulani Village in Yandoto District of Tsafe Local Government Area, neutralising one of the suspected attackers during the operation.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement, saying a group of armed bandits, reportedly carrying rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and AK-47 rifles, invaded the community with the intention of carrying out criminal activities.

According to him, police operatives on duty, working in collaboration with members of the community, responded swiftly to the attack and engaged the assailants in a gun battle.

The operation, he said, resulted in the neutralisation of one suspected bandit, while others fled into a nearby forest with possible gunshot injuries.

Abubakar stated that the prompt response by security personnel and community members prevented the attackers from carrying out their mission.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended the bravery, resilience and professionalism displayed by the operatives as well as the support provided by residents during the operation.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intensive operations against banditry and other violent crimes across Zamfara State.

The police commissioner also urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities in the state.

Bello further called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements and activities through the command’s emergency communication channels.
