The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) has condemned the killing of eight officers of the Corps attached to BUA Cement Company, Okpella, in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who said this in a statement by the spokesperson of the Corps, CSC Afolabi Babawale, restated the corps’ commitment to the protection of critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
The statement said the deceased officers were killed by armed kidnappers who launched an attack against the operatives attached to the BUA cement company.
The statement noted that the operatives were deployed to provide adequate security and ensure the security coverage of the Chinese expatriates working at the company.

“Unfortunately, the convoy of both NSCDC operatives and the Chinese expatriates was ambushed during a routine patrol, leaving eight personnel dead, four injured, one expatriate missing, and four rescued,” it said.
The CG vowed that this occurrence will not discourage the Corps from discharging its statutory mandate in the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO) has condemned the state government’s silence following the killing of eight Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives, the abduction of a Chinese national, and the kidnapping of over 18 passengers in the state.
Gunmen had on September 5 attacked NSCDC personnel at BUA Cement, Okpella, killing eight and injuring four. On the same day, passengers of a Toyota Camry and an 18-seater Edo Line bus were abducted.
In a statement, EDOCSO criticised Governor Monday Okpebholo for focusing on politics instead of security and demanded the procurement of modern equipment and a special anti-kidnapping squad. It also urged police to prioritise violent crimes over extortion at roadblocks.
