Crops worth millions of naira were destroyed as water submerged hundreds of farmlands in Taraba State.
Daily Trust gathered that the River Benue in Taraba had overflown its banks, resulting in flooding and destruction of farmlands.
Areas affected by the flooding include parts of Lau, Karim-Lamido, Gassol and Ardo local government areas.
Rice and Maize farms, mostly located close to the River Benue, were destroyed, while many houses in villages along the River Benue bank were also submerged.

Alhaji Sale Binnari, in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, told Daily Trust that hundreds of rice and maize farms were destroyed by water.
Garba Halilu, in Mutum-Biyu town, Gassol Local Government Area, also told Daily Trust that several farmlands were destroyed by flood in Mutum Biyu, Kwatan Nanido, Maigemu and Sheka areas.
The state’s commissioner of Environment, Aisha Barde, could not be reached for comment as she did not answer calls from our reporter.
However, a staff member of the Ministry of Environment who would not like his name mentioned, told Daily Trust that residents of riverine areas in the state were earlier warned of impending flooding this year.
