Civil society groups under the Forum of Kano Civil Society Organisations Against Corruption, on Thursday, staged a protest in Kano to demand a full investigation into alleged multi-billion naira scandals linked to officials of the Kano State Government.
The protesters marched through major streets, declaring support for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
They urged both agencies to resist political interference and pursue ongoing cases to their logical conclusion.
The groups cited the ₦6.5 billion fraud allegation against the Director General of Protocol, Abdullahi Rogo, from whom the ICPC reportedly recovered ₦1.2bn.

They also highlighted other controversies, including the diversion of federal palliatives, inflated contracts under ACRISAL and the ₦50,000 Women Cash Support Scheme, and questionable road projects.
The CSOs accused the state government of attempting to downplay the allegations through propaganda instead of ordering investigations.
They called on the Kano State House of Assembly to launch an independent probe and urged the judiciary to ensure impartial rulings in corruption-related cases.
However, the state Attorney General, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, said the state government, as a law-abiding entity, will not react to the allegations and the call by the CSOs as the matter is before the court.
